PEAVEY JSX JOE SATRIANI SIGNATURE HALF STACK
This Half-Stack includes the Peavey JSX Joe Satriani Signature guitar amp Head and the JSX 412 Speaker Cabinet. The Peavey JSX Joe Satriani Signature Head tears up the competition. Joe Satriani is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and Peavey has built him an amp with the sound, feel, and flexibility he's always sought. With a punchy gain structure that boosts your playing with authority, this amp delivers sounds ranging from Classic 50 to vintage British, modern Triple XXX, and all the in-between tones. The versatile and comprehensive control section supplies a master volume pot and independent volume knobs for each of the three channels (Ultra, Crunch, and Clean). Tone shaping is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid, and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra and Crunch channels use active Bottom, Body, and Hair (lo, mid, hi) controls. The Clean channel is pristine yet warm and is specifically voiced to work well with effects pedals. The Ultra and Crunch channels have gain controls and fat switches to further assist in taming this thunderous tube-powered beast while achieving killer sound. Global resonance and presence knobs increase control of high-end tones, while a noise gate on the Crunch and Ultra channels cuts down on the excess noise generated by running the gain and EQ controls on high settings. Since the gate is fully adjustable, you can really clamp down, leave it slightly open, or just turn it off. The JSX uses 3 - 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 - EL34 power amp tubes. The power amp section delivers an earth-quaking 120W of pure tube power and can be converted to 4 - 6L6GC. It is also designed to work equally well into 4-, 8-, or 16-ohm loads. With 400W of continuous power handling and four 12" custom JSX speakers, the Peavey JSX 412 Speaker Cabinet is the perfect compliment to the JSX amplifier. Co-designed by guitar legend Joe Satriani, the JSX 412 speaker cab features a microphone-simulated XLR direct output so you get Joe's live, onstage tone (speakers remain active when direct output is used) without using a separate mic and stand. Made in the USA. Peavey JSX Half-Stack Features: * JSX Joe Satriani Signature Head Designed to Joe Satriani's specifications * Global Resonance and Presence controls * 120W of pure tube power * 3 channels: Ultra, Clean, and Crunch * 3-band EQ on each channel * Punchy high-gain structure on the Crunch and Ultra channels * Comes with EL34 tubes, but can be configured for 6L6 tubes * Fully adjustable noise gate for the Crunch and Ultra channels * Separate Fat switches on the Crunch and Ultra channels * All controls located on the front panel * Noise gate * Uses 3 - 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 - 6L6GC power amp tubes * Master volume * Independent volume knobs * Passive controls for bass, mid, and treble on the Clean channel * Ultra and Crunch channels use active Bottom, Body, and Hair (lo, mid, hi) controls * 4-, 8-, or 16-ohm loads JSX 412 Speaker Cabinet 400Ws continuous power handling * 16 ohms mono * Four 12" custom JSX speakers (rear-mounted) * 11-ply birch baffle * Microphone-simulated XLR direct output * Black weave grille cloth with JSX logo Made in the USA. Guitar One Calls Peavey Penta™ 'A True Diamond in the Rough'
October 12, 2005
First Penta amplifier review appears in magazine's December 2005 issue
When Guitar One magazine called the new Peavey Penta to duty for its December 2005 issue, reviewer Douglas Baldwin found the 140-watt behemoth far more than merely loud.
"The Penta is one surprising five-headed beast," writes Baldwin. "A virtual history of amp tone is available with the spin of a knob."
That's our exclusive Pentatone™ control of which Baldwin enthuses, a five-setting switch that completely reconfigures the preamp at each setting—in the process revealing five of the most prized tube tones in guitar history.
"[The Penta] nicely complemented any guitar and nailed classic tones with a simple twirl of the Pentatone switch," Baldwin adds. "Although it may look like it's built for one-toned warriors, the foolproof Penta actually affords players a huge range of sounds. The Penta is a true diamond in the rough."
The Penta amplifier combines four matched EL34 tubes with four 12AX7 tubes and features ceramic tube sockets, custom transformers, ultra-high quality components and 140 watts into 16, 8 or 4 ohms. A product of extensive tube amplifier engineering, the Penta is a completely straightforward rock amp for true plug-&-play guitar fanatics.
The Pentatone switch's five positions are denoted with icons rather than words. The "Star" icon reveals a classic British "plexi" voicing, while the "Bull" icon produces a modified British voicing with tons of added gain and a tighter low end. The "Tree" setting is, simply put, fat and clean, while the "Mudflap Girl" setting is a super-high gain voicing with a more responsive EQ and power amp section (think Triple XXX®). The "Cactus" icon lays on a thicker British voicing with a loose attack and slightly more gain.
